Preventing the next emergency

Many emergency callouts are avoidable. Most of the failures we attend show warning signs months beforehand.

  • Replace ceramic fuse boards and add safety switches on every circuit
  • Have switchboards and main connections checked with thermal imaging
  • Take repeated nuisance tripping seriously instead of just resetting it
  • Inspect private power poles for rot, lean and termites
  • Book a periodic electrical safety inspection for older homes and rentals

Emergency electrician FAQs

What counts as an electrical emergency?

Anything with a risk of fire or shock: burning smells, sparking, heat at outlets or the switchboard, shocks from fixtures, water near electrics, or damaged service lines. Loss of power with no obvious cause is also urgent if it affects essential equipment.

My safety switch keeps tripping. Is that an emergency?

A safety switch that trips is doing its job: it has detected leakage current. If it will not reset at all, call us. If it resets and holds, unplug appliances and book us to find the cause rather than resetting it over and over.

Do you charge more for emergency work?

We explain the cost before work begins, so there are no surprises. Larger repairs found during an emergency visit are quoted upfront and you decide whether to go ahead.

Who do I call if the power is out in the whole street?

A street-wide outage or fallen lines in the street are Energex’s responsibility. Call Energex on 13 19 62. If only your property is affected, call us.

Can I reset breakers or replace a fuse myself?

You can safely reset a tripped breaker or safety switch once. If it trips again, leave it off. Rewiring ceramic fuses and any repair to wiring or fittings must be done by a licensed electrician.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Darra and cover Brisbane’s western suburbs, the Centenary, the inner west, the CBD and inner suburbs, and Ipswich, including Oxley, Sherwood, Indooroopilly, Forest Lake, Goodna and Booval.

Big thank you to Matt and Lincoln for changing over 3 lights. Made the initial enquiry on Friday, not expecting anything to be done for a while, but Jo had us booked in for Monday morning. The boys turned up on time, efficiently completed the job and tidied up well after themselves. Not something we've always experienced with other trades. We've used FWES on a number of occasions now and regardless of who comes out, they're always communicative, efficient, respectful and professional. The FWES team are a pleasure to deal with.

It's rare that Tradies will show up exactly on time - yet this is exactly what Matthew and Ollie did. Even though there was an hour 'window' for arrival, they were on site at the start for 6.30am. Fast & efficient, installing a complete house of wired fire alarms and a new fan. I felt I had my whole morning back, no interruptions. Whole process from initial phone inquiry, to booking and installation was quick. Neat, presentable and tidied up after the job was done. Highly recommended!

I’ve engaged Fully Wired on a couple of occasions and both times they have been great to deal with and with competitive pricing. I recently had Alex out to complete a quote, and he and another employee (whose name I’m not sure of, sorry!) were brilliant despite being presented with a challenge first thing in the morning (which they overcame). Super impressed and will continue coming back to these guys for future electrical needs.

Adam and Ollie showed up on time for our EV Charger installation today. They had the unit installed in two hours, left the site clean and tidy. Once they had left, I noticed that our inverter and battery wasn’t functioning as it should and put in a call, request a return visit. This was obliged the same day - a couple of hours later. They showed up willing to explore and fix the issue. Very helpful, they restored everything functioning as it should. Great team and great service. I will be using them again for future works. Thank you very much.

I highly recommend Fully Wired for any electrical needs. I have now had 2 separate electrical services done. Last year Alex installed several outdoor power points and also gave us great advice about future requirements for a spa. Last week we had Zac & Linkin install a couple of heaters under our patio. We are very impressed by the fast service and attention to detail.
