Is Your Switchboard Ready for a Smart Meter?
Your electricity retailer installs the smart meter, but the existing switchboard is the property owner’s responsibility.
Upload a few photos of your switchboard, and our electrical team can assess whether your smart meter is ready to be installed or if any compliance issues need to be addressed beforehand.

Your retailer installs the meter. Your switchboard is your responsibility.
When a smart meter is installed, the electricity retailer or appointed meter provider completes the meter work. Any upgrades or repairs required to the existing switchboard remain the property owner’s responsibility.
Older, crowded, damaged or difficult-to-access switchboards may need attention before the installation can proceed. Fully Wired can review clear photos of your switchboard and provide an initial indication of what may need to happen next.
The complimentary photo check is an initial visual review only. It is not an electrical inspection, compliance assessment, quotation or guarantee that every issue can be identified from photographs. In some cases, an onsite inspection will be required.
Signs your switchboard may need attention
You may benefit from an initial review if any of the following appear relevant:
- The switchboard appears old or still contains older-style components.
- The meter panel may contain asbestos.
- There appears to be limited space inside the switchboard.
- The enclosure is damaged or missing a door.
- The switchboard is difficult to access.
- You have received a smart meter installation notice or defect notice.
- The meter provider has already been unable to complete the installation.
- You are unsure whether the switchboard is ready.
These signs do not automatically mean that the switchboard is non-compliant or requires replacement. They may indicate that further review is worthwhile before the meter provider attends.
Received a defect notice? We can help you get it fixed.
If your meter provider has been unable to complete your smart meter installation and has issued a defect notice, the required switchboard or meter enclosure work is the property owner’s responsibility. Fully Wired can review the notice, inspect what has been identified, and help you move forward with confidence.
We provide fixed quotes before work begins, so you know exactly what rectification will cost before any repairs are carried out.
Under Queensland’s smart meter rollout, electricity retailers are progressively replacing older meters with smart meters by 2030. While your retailer supplies and installs the meter, homeowners remain responsible for ensuring the existing switchboard and meter enclosure meet current safety and technical requirements.
You can also upload a copy of your defect notice when you submit the complimentary photo check form below.
